Today we will begin our study of the Regions of Michigan.
Please open you textbook to page 20.
The Upper Peninsula of Michigan is an area of small mountains and rolling hills. It is rich in natural resources that fuel the mining, lumbering, and shipping industries. Although it is smaller in population than the Lower Peninsula, it attracts many tourists to its lakes, mountains, and forests.
Please read pages 20-21 to learn about Michigan's Upper Peninsula.

Now let's turn to page 22 and learn about the Lower Peninsula.
The southern part of the Lower Peninsula of Michigan holds most of the state's population as well as most of its farms. The northern part is widely known for its cherry orchards. Michigan's largest city, Detroit, is on the Lower Peninsula (not far from us!) and is famously known as "the Motor City" because of its automobile industry. There are also many other types of manufacturing in Lower Peninsula cities.
Please read pp. 22-23 to learn more about Michigan's Lower Peninsula.
