Charger Chips
Students in all grades are given "Charger Chips" when they display Christ-like behavior to others. Each quarter, Charger Chips are drawn and students can win special prizes!
Cross-Grade Buddies
Grades pair up and collaborate during various times of the year with art projects, "buddy reading", and faith enrichment. This opportunity gives our older St. Joan students an chance to be "Christ for others" and exhibit good role-model behaviors. Our younger St. Joan students benefit from having a "big brother" or "big sister" to wave to in the hallway and learn important life lessons.
Summer Reading
All students in Preschool through 8 are encouraged to participate in the school’s Summer Reading program. Organized by the school librarian, students ar e encouraged to read (or be read to) over 1,250 pages during the summer. Students earn recognition raffle ticket s according to the number of pages read. All students achieving the 1,250 page minimum are invi ted to attend the Summer Reading day-long picnic held at Metropolitan Beach during a school day in September. The Parent Teacher Guild provides bus transportation, a lunch of hot dogs, pop, chips and popsicles. Top readers are recognized on the school Wall of Fame and drawings are held to reward readers for their accomplishments. This program is a wonderful celebration of reading, with essentially the entire school participating.
Passion Play
The Passion is an annual play that begins with Jesus entering Jerusalem. It is a vibrant performance by students incorporating songs, dances, props and costumes. Students starting in Grade 5, practice twice a week to prepare for this moving interpretation of the Gospel. Many students remain involved for four years.
It is a beautiful ministry that draws us closer to the Lord. Each student shows their love for Christ as they commit to pray and practice for two months beforehand. The day of the performance is very somber and brings us to tears.
