WELCOME TO READING!
When we are about to begin a 'Read-aloud' in the classroom, I typically pull sticks and have students take turns.
Occasionally, though, I hear students make the following request: "May I read the WHOLE STORY?!?!"
Well .... Today is your chance!
You may either read out loud on your own (perhaps for your family's entertainment), or you may 'choral read' with me, just as you did last week.
The choice is yours!
Either way, your job today is to read (out loud) the story of Oliver K. Woodman.
After you finish reading, please answer the following questions:
► After rereading the letter to Tameka dated June 1,
please explain to me why Uncle Ray doesn't know how long it will take.
►After reading the letter written by Bobbi Jo, please tell me what else would be nice about traveling with Oliver.
►After reading the letter written by the Claremont Sisters, please answer: "What is the most fascinating place Oliver has visited so far?"
►Now that you have read the entire story, what would you say was so amazing about Oliver's journey?
Now, go back to the beginning of the story, and notice the dates of the letters AND the clue words that help you understand the order in which the events happened.
The Journey of Oliver K. Woodman is a story told through a series of letters. The letters were dated at the top so you had clues about what happened first, second, third, and so on.
►What was the date on the first letter from Tameka to Uncle Ray?
►What was the date of the first letter from Uncle Ray to Tameka?
►Who wrote first?
More letters are written that tell of Oliver's travels. The dates on these letters tell the order in which Oliver traveled from place to place.
Final question:
►Did Oliver travel to Arkansas or Tennessee first?
*** I TRUST THAT YOU ANSWERED THESE QUESTIONS; I AM PROUD OF YOU FOR DOING SO!***
YOU DO NOT NEED TO SUBMIT THE ANSWERS TO THESE QUESTIONS.
