Introduction to Art classes for students in grades K-8
The arts enable us to have an experience we can have from no other source

Class description – “Why is art so important?”
The arts are a universal form of human expression and a unique way of knowing that engage us in affective, imaginative and productive activity. Learning through the arts helps us to explore, shape and communicate our sense of identity and understanding of the world, while providing opportunities to develop self-confidence, resilience and adaptability.
In Art class, students will have the opportunity to function as artists as well as learners of the visual arts. Students will use a variety of art mediums to develop skills and learn techniques, with a focus on the elements and principles of design, drawing, and color theory. While creating art and learning art processes, students will examine the role that art and artists have played in a variety of world cultures. Throughout the course, students will explore artistic mediums including, graphite, tempera and watercolor paint, various 3D materials, and collage, to name a few.
