MATH
WELCOME TO MATH!
Today we will enjoy an added challenge as we Regroup with Zeros.
Please open your Math textbook to page 114. Consider the following problem:
400 - 276 ______
Notice that we don't have enough ones in 400 to be able to take six away. We would like to regroup from the tens, but there are no tens in 400. We must go all the way to the 100s column and regroup one of the 100s as ten 10s. Now we have ten 10s in the tens column, so we can regroup one of them into the ones column. Whew! Now we have ten ones in the ones column, so we can successfully take 6 from them.
Perhaps the textbook describes it better on pages 114 and 115. If you would like further clarification of 'Regrouping Twice,' you might enjoy watching Mr. Kahn of Kahn Academy demonstrate the process: Kahn Academy
When you are ready, please complete the problems on page 115.
For homework, please complete page 34 in your Math Workbook.
