Helpful Hints for a Successful School Year
*remind students to check assignment notebook/web page every night
*check for required parent signatures and return them promptly
*check organization of materials regularly – students need to come to school prepared
*provide a distraction-free time and space for studying and homework (parent help and or checking of work is allowed and recommended when necessary/please remember that helping in not giving the answer but assisting your child in discovering the answer)
*provide necessary supplies (pens, pencils, scissors, markers, etc) that can be used and kept at home so students do not have to carry them back and forth
*all homework should be completed in on average in about an hour (if your child is consistently spending long periods of time on homework contact one of the teachers)
*plan ahead and start projects and studying for tests early – remind students not to wait until the last minute
*assist in studying for tests
*stress the importance of a good night’s sleep
*all work to be handed in should be double-checked for neatness and spelling or grammar errors
*all supplies should be replenished as needed
*keep an eye on email, Facebook, and any electronic communication as these are often used to share answers and bully other students
*find time for reading – everyday for at least 15 minutes
*encourage students to ask for help when they need to (this is a valuable life skill that will come in handy in the years to come)
*contact the sixth grade teachers (Mrs. Lietaert and Mrs. Malek) at any time with questions or concerns – we are here to help!
