Welcome to Second Grade!
Mrs. Willette – Room 202
Our year is off to a great start! I’m looking forward to getting to know your student and you. Please take a few moments to review some of the information on this page to help you become familiar with second grade.
Schedules
Monday: Gym
Tuesday: Music
Wednesday: Technology and Spanish
Thursday: Art
Friday: Library
Additionally, grades k-4 attend Mass every Thursday at 8:30 a.m. (grades 5-8 attend Mass on a different day).
Lunch/Recess is from 11:30-12:15 each day.
Student Work
Student work will be returned throughout the week, but the bulk of it may go home on Fridays. This work does not need to be returned unless marked with a note stating otherwise (“Please complete” or “Please fix and return”). Please take a few moments to look over these papers with your child, as this can give you an idea of how they're doing. Talk about what they’re learning in class, or what they’re enjoying, or what they may be struggling with. Be encouraging and remind students that mistakes are part of learning. Many assignments will be checked together in class. Those taken for a grade will typically have a percent marked on them.
"Uh-Ohs"
Orange forms, or "Uh-Ohs" are used to communicate any difficulties a student may be having in terms of behaivor, work, organization, etc. These forms are only sent home afer a student has been fairly reminded to correct a problem. If a problem persists, an orange form will be sent home.
Homework and Homework Notebook
At the end of each day we will review homework and any other important messages together and write them in our homework notebook. Parents should review the notebook and sign it each day. Your signature is to indicate that you were aware the student had work and that the work was completed. The homework notebook is a good habit for students to practice, as they will be used now through the 8th grade.
In addition to any homework assigned, Students should also plan on practicing weekly spelling words each night, as well as practicing basic math facts regularly (you can find some good Web sites for practicing math facts listed on my teacher page on the SJA Web site). Additionally, I will send home a couple of extra practice pages 2-3 times per week. The recommendation for second grade homework is that it takes no longer than 20-30 minutes to complete. Please let me know if it ever seems homework is taking much longer than that.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Willette, Room 202
