Grade 5 Religion
One of the goals of 5th grade religion is to make sure our students understand what the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy are and how they translate into the lives of a 5th grader.
For many years, Mrs. Schrage had the students make posters about each work of mercy and explain it in their own words and then draw or find pictures to show that they understand what these mean in their lives.
This year she thought this project would be a perfect way to use the NEW Makerspace we have at SJA.
The students had a chance to study the Works of Mercy and decided which 2-4 they would like to portray in a project in the Makerspace. Mrs. Schrage was overwhelmed when she saw how excited they were to show what they knew. "I think this project was a lot more meaningful for my students because of each students' ability to be creative in the way they described the work of mercy."  Mrs. Schrage

Grade 2-Science
The students in Mrs. Krafchak's 2nd Grade class visited the Makerspace to make cubes, rectangular prisms, and pyramids.   They used pipe cleaners, popsicle sticks, playdough, straws, and coffee stirrers.  A lot of problem solving and fun was  involved!

Grade 5-Science
The students visited the Makerspace as a culminating activity for the end of a unit of study on the organ systems of the human body. In groups, students brainstormed ways they could use materials in the Makerspace to illustrate the Circulatory, Respiratory, Muscular, Nervous, Skeletal or Digestive system on a life-sized cut out of the human body. Students presented their finished projects to their classmates. Mrs. Barker shares, "It was a fun, interactive, educational, and cooperative group effort. Fifth graders LOVE the Makerspace!"
